1% of the Internet crashed the other day …

You might have read this in some newspaper, though unless you are very unlucky I doubt you really noticed, but a few routers stopped work the way they were suppose to and caused failures in the control information in the Internet.

You can read more on HITECHfourm. If you read the article, or scroll down near the end, you see they say “it will happen again”.

The scary thing is that they are so right. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) was not made to handle errors in the data stream, and if they did happen it did basically use the ejection seat (imagine your car not having a break, but an ejection seat instead .. wuuuuussshhhhh).

Jpeg Info

In the spirit of helping I’m trying to post old articles again in on my website. Links below does not work, but here is the text about my Jpeg /Exif “investigations” 9 years ago 🙂

Recently someone asked me for a program to rename jpeg files, so they would contain the date as a part of the file name. Naive as I am, I thought that this would be an easy task, so I offered to help. I just didn’t know if he wanted to use the file date or the “current date” when attaching the date to the file name.

Sticky notes in the browser

I’m still wondering why I never seen a web browser with a good sticky note feature. Opera, Google, FireFox and IE all are “pretty good browsers”, but all lack this feature and so far I’ve not seen an add-on doing this.

Basically I wish I would have a sticky note option to which I could add a note to the Internet and see this as I browser. I could add a note to a web page and next time I get to this page I will see the note pop up. Maybe the note is more general about the website and I could maybe have added it to the server and it  will show up the next time I enter this server again.

The advanced Sticky Note would be a note on a subject. I’m looking to buy a new harddisk and start to research the subject. As I research I write notes down “stuck” to the manufactor model number. At 3am I go to bed and next week I’ll try again … I start to look at disks and when a webpage as the model number I’ll see my notes related to it.

Anyone? Why do we not have this?

Luca is born

We are so happy to tell that December 30th 2009 Luca was born in Herlev, Denmark, and we now have a second son. Felix, the brother, loves his little brother, but can not wait until they can play together.

The specs: 4520 gram (~10 pts) and 58 cm (~23 in)

21,1 km – 8 seconds

Sunday it was the day where we were going to run a half marathon again. Granted I’m not sure I would have done it if Sabine hadn’t been pushing me a bit .. and if not for the fact that they also had a race for children where Felix could run his first race on his own (legs). Anyway, Sabine had us all signed up to run at the Hannover Marathon this weekend.

First run

734|300

The time is 11:59 and it’s almost time to run now .. looking down, Felix checks his shoes; yes, it’s the new ones. White, with stripes on the side, and looking good on the feet. We got them just the other day, to prepare for the run today. The mandatory “before” picture is taken, while he is seriously hoping, that they will forget the” after” shot!

First race

We did it .. after many km/miles sitting in the baby jogger, Felix now finally get to run his own race – May the 2nd. The race is called “Kinder Lauf” (childrens run) .. a mind boggling 1,2km (3/4 mile) long race held the day before the Hannover Marathon. As good parents we also bought running shoes for him, so now about the only thing he can talk about is when the race is.

Oh well, and we signed ourselves up for the half marathon – first race of the year.

Clam Chowder

We actually managed to find some clams at a decent price, so here comes the recipie for San Francsco style Clam Chowder. Well, it probably really is a Boston Clam Chowder but with a San Francisco twist (a sourdough bread bowl).

200 g Canned clams, cooked and chopped (dry weight)
250 g Bacon, diced
300 g Potatoes, diced
1 L Milk
2   Onions, diced
1   Bayleaf
    Salt/Pepper
