Google Voice and PBX

Many people are interested in using Google Voice together with a software PBX and there is an option. Google Voice let you forward your voice to a gmail chat account (the one with the same user id as Google Voice). Now this is interesting as with the right software you can integrate it via the Jabber/Xmpp.

PBXes has done it and there is talk that Asterisk 1.8 will do it 🙂

I’ve not tried any of them, but it sure sounds good ….

Sticky notes in the browser

I’m still wondering why I never seen a web browser with a good sticky note feature. Opera, Google, FireFox and IE all are “pretty good browsers”, but all lack this feature and so far I’ve not seen an add-on doing this.

Basically I wish I would have a sticky note option to which I could add a note to the Internet and see this as I browser. I could add a note to a web page and next time I get to this page I will see the note pop up. Maybe the note is more general about the website and I could maybe have added it to the server and it  will show up the next time I enter this server again.

The advanced Sticky Note would be a note on a subject. I’m looking to buy a new harddisk and start to research the subject. As I research I write notes down “stuck” to the manufactor model number. At 3am I go to bed and next week I’ll try again … I start to look at disks and when a webpage as the model number I’ll see my notes related to it.

Anyone? Why do we not have this?

Phone Service

We opted for the ATT “Go Phone” (pre paid) for the trip as we did not want to get a two year contract with anyone. The Go Phone was a cheap solution – and as it shows, a bad one. ATT has almost no service west of Chicago and today, in a tiny town called Gunnison in Colorado we had service for the first time since we left Yosemite more than three weeks ago! As it happens ATT relies a lot of “partners” in the west, but Go Phone customers cannot use them. Unfortunately Gunnison is just a small town on the road (two supermarkets) and besides shopping for gas and food we didn’t expect to be in town long.

The phone should be more useful when we reach Chicago – I’m glad that we have not had any meltdown with the bus so far as we would not have been able to call anyone!

Gadget bag

It is fun to plan such a trip and it is fun to play with thing you can use for such a trip – so we naturally have a number of gadgets with us for good use and for fun. First of all I wanted a good computer, with a fairly large screen for picture viewing and editing with us. It needed a big screen, so a 17” would be a natural choice, but we also wanted something reasonably handy around the bus and other places. Since I had a Lenovo T60p at work, with a 15” wide screen, I ended up with the same one (well, a T61p), with the extra large battery, for the trip. We did also consider getting an extra large, external, hard disk for picture backup, but ended up with just using DVDs to have a copy of the images.
