Washington DC

We arrived a day late to Washing DC, from New York City, but found this very nice campground, in the suburbs, where we could park at the Metro station and drive into town. This way our traditional parking challenge was solved.

We came as usual a bit late into town, but found a Farmer’s Market just off the Mall near the Smithsonian Visitor Center, shopped for lunch there and ate it in the Park of the Visitor Center. After food and coffee we were ready to go and see a museum or two.

We picked (out of the vast amount of museums) the brand new “Museum of the American Indian” , that has its home in a very interesting building (Henrik, if you get the chance to go to DC you should see it). Not only the building was great, but also the exhibitions were very interesting. Sabine found a very interesting book – predictably 😉 – about American Indian cooking – ummm.

Afterwards Felix felt asleep and we walked around looking at all the must see things like the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, Georgetown etc.

The second day we had planned to go into town to look around, but it started to rain. Apparently, Hurricane Hanna had decided that we were supposed to be wet – oh boy it poured; and there was no way we were going to move around outside more than was strictly neccessary. Just walking from the bus to the entrance to the nice coffee/breakfast place we found got you completely soaked. We were hanging out there for a few hours drinking coffee and writing postcards, afterwards we headed for the Blue Ridge Parkway.
