Cleveland

We’re now in Cleveland, Ohio – you might have heard about the ”Burning River” years ago. That was here. You might also have heard about Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame – that is hear. The city has cleaned up and the river is no longer burning; parts of the waterfront areas have been filled with expensive buildings (like the Hall of Fame), but besides that I think it was a bit of a letdown.

The Lonely Planet said that “The Flats” were nice for afternoon beer drinking and the warehouse district was picking up for night life. We went to The Plans first and found 4-5 night clubs and a few restaurants which were just opening (Friday at 2pm). We got lunch at the Rock Bottom Brewery in the old powerhouse. The food was what you would expect and the beers were local names.

The rest of the City was a bit empty with no discernable downtown. The warehouse district was small, but nice. We didn’t really spend much time there. After not being able to find more of the “buzzing town” we decided that it was time to go for the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, but at the door we were politely informed that they would close at 5:30 (it was ten to five) so we probably didn’t want to get in.

Well – we actually expected to eat in town that night, but didn’t feel like and decided to head for the campground in the nice state park we’ve found to relax, shower and prepare for tomorrows drive. Felix is tired and seeks excitement after a few days on the road with little to distract him. Right now he is sleeping in the car, Sabine shops at Whole Foods ( 🙂 ) and I found a hole to send this to the blog.

Tomorrow we are heading up to Niagara Falls – the guy in Black Canyon did suggest that we should see the Fallingwater house, but in spite of Henrik telling that this is a must see location, I’m not yet sure we’ll do it – it is probably another 300 miles of driving. We really should have driven some of it tonight if we were to see it.
