Immigrated to the United States on the 8th of May, 1900, aboard the ship S.S. Ultonia, leaving from Liverpool England and arriving in Boston on the 19th of May, 1900.
He then traveled to Nebraska, and worked on farms in Nebraska in the summer time, and stayed with Uncle "Sack." In the winter time he would travel to Minnesota, where he stayed with Uncle Casper. One of the farms he worked on in the summer,
was the farm of Peter Hemmingsen, the father of Karen.
He saved his money and was able to start farming on an 80 acre farm. He only had one team of horses. Peter Hemmingsen realized what a good farer he was, so he rneted his 240 acre fram to him and Karen.
Before he died he had saved his money, and had bought a small farm, but was still renting from Peter when he died. Karen sold the fram when he died to buy the house in Marquette. |
